The technologies used in aeronautics are constantly evolving, and the number and weight of components is multiplying. To avoid overloading aircraft, the weight of each component is optimized.

One way of reducing the weight of power supply components for multiple on-board devices is to use 28VDC :

• On-board DC/DC power converters are lighter than AC/AC converters
• Electrical and electronic devices operating at 28VDC require half as much current in the wiring as at 12VDC for equivalent power.

This makes it possible to benefit from numerous on-board devices: LCD screens, on-board radar, power electronics, converters, inverters, on-board computers, cockpit de-icing, small HVAC evaporator and compressor units, sensitive electronic systems.

All these devices require cooling to prevent overheating and fires. They are cooled using axial fans. These have to be compact and lightweight to fit into the confined space of airplanes and helicopters.

In addition, the electronic and electrical equipment on board aircraft is subject to extreme power supply conditions, including voltage transients (short-term surges of electrical energy).

To cool electronic and electrical components, fans must meet a number of criteria, including:

• Weight
• Compacitness
• 28VDC power supply
• Protection against voltage transients.

• protected against voltage transients  up tu 80V
• designed to work in severe environments : they are tropicalized, protected against salt spray, shocks and vibrations.

• fan rotation speeds
• leads output to add alarms or tachometers

• Leads output can be replaced by terminals
